400 George Street attracts ACCC

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has committed to a 1,000-square metre lease at 400 George Street in Brisbane’s CBD.

The ACCC commitment is the third major government signing in the new Green Star-accredited building.

400 George Street is a 34-storey commercial tower jointly developed by Grosvenor Australia and Leighton Properties. It was completed in late 2009 and comprises almost 44,000 square metres of office and retail space.

The consumer watchdog has signed a 10-year lease with a five-year option over 1,000 square metres on level 24.

The ACCC joins another Federal Government agency and the Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Resource Management who are located over levels three to 13 in the building.

Grosvenor Australia Development Director Graham Livingstone said the ACCC commitment demonstrated 400 George Street’s solid credentials.

“With nearly 60% of the building now leased to State and Federal Government tenants, 400 George Street has cemented its reputation as a building of choice in the public sector,” Mr Livingstone said.

Leighton Properties Executive Director and State Manager Queensland, Andrew Borger, said 400 George Street’s 5 Star Green Star – Office Design v2 rating had been a drawcard in securing the lease.

“Government agencies have firm criteria for new office space and 400 George Street fit the bill by providing a modern, green and healthy option in an excellent location,” Mr Borger said.

400 George Street is located in Brisbane’s North Quarter precinct, in close proximity to rail and bus links.

The 400 George Street office tenant profile includes Lihir Services Australia, Queensland-based law firm Cooper Grace Ward and a group of barristers.

Retail tenants on the building’s podium level include LR Sushi, Salads & More, MYO, Box & Bowl, Bell’s Kitchen, Twisted Grill, The Groove Train and Chocolate Soldier.

400 George Street features onsite childcare, 290 bike racks to encourage people to ride to work and secure parking for 221 cars.

The lease was negotiated by Adam Barrett of Jones Lang LaSalle.
