Leighton Properties 20 May 2011

Sustainability in the property industry is critical and the drive toward adopting green building practices is a key feature of all Leighton Properties' projects.

It is clear that a workplace of the future must be environmentally sustainable in its design and construction; while having future-proof building performance incorporated from the outset.

Leighton Properties' developments are recognised as industry leaders in the field of sustainability with several of the current and recently completed projects demonstrating this commitment.

567 Collins Street, in Melbourne’s CBD, is targeting a 6 Star Green Star Office Design v2 Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia and 5 Star NABERS Energy Rating. The building features enhanced indoor environmental quality including enhanced air change effectiveness; excellent daylight and views; and individual control of air conditioning; combined with water saving initiatives such as water efficient fixtures and fittings; collection of rainwater; black water; and co-generation. Sustainable materials and transport initiatives are also key considerations that create an imposing benchmark for environmental and operational efficiency - unified with unrivalled comfort and amenity.

The HQ project in Brisbane has set new standards for sustainability in Brisbane as it features Australia’s largest co-generation plant in a commercial application and Australia’s largest private sector bicycle centre. The plant uses excess heat produced during power generation to operate chillers for the air conditioning system. 95% of energy is supplied by co-generation, a new benchmark in energy efficient delivery - capable of providing 100% of all energy requirements to the building.

The Eclipse development in Parramatta’s CBD is also under construction and will contribute strongly to a sustainable future, targeting a 5 Star Green Star Office Design v2 Rating and a 5 Star NABERS Energy Rating. Eclipse features low temperature VAV air conditioning system, high performance low thermal co-efficient solar glass, rainwater collection and re-use, and over 190 bicycle racks and end of trip facilities.

Leighton Properties continues to seek new technologies and practices to optimise sustainability in the developments it undertakes - this involvement will benefit employees, the environment and investors.
