Leighton Properties has announced its 55,000 sqm office development at 567 Collins Street and intends to commence construction within weeks with the signing of an anchor tenant for the building.
Leighton Contractors has been appointed to build the 55,000 sqm building and are considering being one of two anchor tenants in the building, leasing the podium campus component of the development.
Terms have also been agreed with leading law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth Legal to take 8,800 sqm of the sky rise in the 26 level Premium Grade tower between Spencer and King Streets in Melbourne's CBD.
Mark Gray, Leighton Properties Managing Director, said Leighton Properties had entered into a contract to purchase the land at 567 Collins Street.
"This agreement extinguishes the previous joint venture development rights – undertaken with APN in 2008 but put on hold due to the GFC – with construction commencing as soon as possible," he said.
"This is an exciting new chapter for Leighton with Leighton Properties and Leighton Contractors working together as a team to achieve an outstanding result in leasing, design and construction."
"567 Collins St will be an iconic contribution to the Melbourne central business district, and an exemplar of Leighton's expertise in the development of high sustainability, architectural and urban quality and amenity."
The prime site is located in the heart of Melbourne's legal, commercial, insurance, banking and finance precincts within 100 metres of Southern Cross Station and is central to the city's three main activities districts - the CBD, Docklands and Southbank.
The 26 level development also provides excellent access to all forms of public transport, freeways, major road networks, childcare and retail amenity at the heart of the City's burgeoning west end business.
The building includes a 2-3 level high foyer comprising a lobby, cafe and retail component, 2 levels of health club, 7 levels of podium campus office and 16 levels of upper tower office with a net lettable area of approximately 54,770 sqm.
The PCA Premium Grade tower will occupy a site of 3,942 sqm and has a 74m frontage to Collins Street.
Corrs Chambers Westgarth Partner in Charge Melbourne, Andrew Pitney, said the tower represented an opportunity to break away from the traditional and provide innovative workspaces to support the firm's commitment to collaborative working.
