Hamilton Harbour Completes First Building

Andrew Borger 26 May 2011

Leighton Properties and Devine Limited’s mixed-used development Hamilton Harbour celebrates the ‘topping out’ of the first residential building, Harbour One, today, as pre-sales for the first and second towers head towards 100 per cent.

The structural completion of Harbour One signals that the first stages of the development are on track for completion by the end of the year.

Leighton Properties Managing Director, Mark Gray was onsite for the milestone and said it was a great achievement for the development and construction team to see the development become a reality.

“It was only a little over a year ago that we started construction. To see what has been accomplished in that time given the rain and flood events is extraordinary,“ said Mr Gray.

“The first residential building is now structurally complete and the internal fit-out that has been occurring concurrently is already approximately 50 per cent complete.

“The structure of the second residential tower, Harbour Two, is also close to complete and we expect its topping out towards the end of June.

“Harbour One and Harbour Two are both over 90 per cent sold, the third residential building, Riverside Hamilton, is more than 50 per cent sold and is programmed to start construction in the second half of 2011.”

Devine CEO, David Keir said the Hamilton Harbour development had provided a boost in the local economy through employment and the manufacture and supply of goods and services.

“More than 2,200 workers have directly worked on the construction site, not to mention the delivery drivers, manufacturers and suppliers who have been indirectly employed via the project,“ said Mr Keir.

“Hamilton Harbour was not affected by the January floods, construction continued as normal to the relief of workers and contactors, and sales continued as buyers looked to unaffected areas“ .

“The delivery of these buildings is a testimony also to the efforts to the Devine Construction team and their numerous contractors who have once again highlighted their proven ability to both meet and expectations,” he said.

ULDA CEO Paul Eagles said the construction of Hamilton Harbour had pushed further development of the Northshore Hamilton Urban Development Area.

“Hamilton Harbour was the first project to start under the ULDA and due to its success provided confidence to other projects within the development”, Mr Eagles said.

“The ULDA will help transform the Northshore Hamilton area from an industrial area to a vibrant riverside mixed-use community, Hamilton Harbour is the start of this.”

The signature retail buildings are being built in conjunction with the Harbour One and Harbour Two towers and are situated within a new ‘high street’ precinct which will feature convenience shops, eateries and specialty boutiques.

Two commercial buildings are also planned for the development, which have prime positioning facing Kingsford Smith Drive.
