HQ wins Development of the Year Award
Nathan Andersen 9 Aug 2011
Leighton Properties' and Leighton Contractors' landmark HQ mixed use development in Brisbane has beaten a field of 35 high profile developments to take out the national Urban Taskforce 2011 Development of the Year Award as well as being awarded a 6 Star Green Star Office As Built v2 Rating.
Andrew Borger, National Head of Commercial said, “Building owners, investors and tenants are looking for ways to minimise running costs, by reducing the building’s carbon footprint.
“We felt it was critical to back up a 6 Star Green Star Office Design v2 rating with the Office As Built rating. HQ is now the largest 6 Star Green Star Office As Built certified development in Australia.
“This reflects occupant’s changing needs. When making a leasing decision, many tenants are now more focused on how many bicycle racks they could be allocated, rather than the number of car parks.”
WORLD LEADING SUSTAINABILITY
The GBCA’s Chief Executive Romilly Madew notes "Achieving a 6 Star Green Star Office Design v2 rating recognises the ‘green vision’ of HQ's architects and engineers. The certification demonstrates that those sustainable design intentions were realised. We congratulate both Leighton Properties and Leighton Contractors for their outstanding result."
Darren Weir, General Manager of Leighton Contractors’ Construction Division – Northern Region, said the team was very proud to be recognised as an industry leader in environmental sustainability.
“As joint venture partner, builder and anchor tenant, Leighton Contractors takes a lot of pride in our involvement and achievements at HQ,” Mr Weir said.
“During the construction of HQ, we were committed to re-using or recycling 80 per cent of construction waste, and we achieved that.”
This is the eighth Leighton Properties development to be Green Star certified in Queensland alone.
