Leighton Properties and its iconic development HQ have been recognised for outstanding commitment to sustainability at Brisbane’s Lord Mayor’s Business Awards.
The company was awarded the Energex Award for Sustainability in Business, recognising excellence in green business practices and sustainable energy use.
Leighton Properties delivered the 6 Star Green Star Office Design v2 and 6 Star Green Star – Office As Built v2 rated building, representing world leadership in environmental sustainability.
The development is the largest 6 Star Green Star Office As Built certified development in Australia, incorporating a 615m2 purpose-built and privately-operated bicycle centre, housing over 270 bike racks and full end-of-trip rider facilities, including 26 showers and 296 lockers.
Leighton Properties has delivered more Green Star buildings than any other developer in Queensland, with its portfolio now boasting nine (9) Green Star certifications.
Brian McGuckin, Queensland General Manager, Leighton Properties, said that the company is very pleased with this latest sustainability award.
“Leighton Properties has been awarded numerous industry green awards for our projects but this Lord Mayor’s Business Award takes it one step further – it recognises our environmental contribution to the sustainability of Brisbane and what we have been able to do in the way of promoting world leadership in sustainable development. Mr McGuckin said.
“We believe this is essential in order for Brisbane to be recognised as ‘Australia’s New World City’.”
Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the Awards program, judged by an independent panel of 14 Brisbane business leaders, recognises the high calibre of companies and individuals who have significantly contributed to the city’s $114 billion economy and play an important role in positioning Brisbane as Australia’s new world city.
“These awards celebrate Brisbane’s incredible talent and showcase impressive innovation and creativity, inherent in our business community.
“Our 36 finalists are from a diverse range of organisations of various sizes and from a range of industry sectors, but what they have in common is their talent and ability to inspire others not just locally but also globally. They provide a very clear message that there’s tremendous opportunity here in Brisbane,” Cr Quirk said.
