Managing Director's Message August 2010
Mark Gray 30 Aug 2010
As the property market cycle moves out of the downturn initiated by the GFC, Leighton Properties is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities.
During this cycle, Leighton Properties was one of the few developers to continue to undertake projects.
In December 2009, King George Central, in the centre of Brisbane, was the first Australian CBD office tower to commence construction since the start of the GFC.
In March 2010, our Hamilton Harbour Residential Precinct project secured a $163 million construction debt facility for Towers 1 and 2, the largest facility for a residential development during that time. Construction commenced in May 2010.
I am also pleased to announce that Hamilton Harbour this month received the award for Marketing Excellence from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, Queensland.
More recently, there has been significant interest in the commercial leasing sector which will secure precommitments for new projects in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. These projects are highly anticipated by international investors who are seeking top quality, sustainable and well positioned Australian assets.
This newsletter details our recent progress including our commitment to sustainability through our continuing support of the Green Building Council of Australia.
This quarter also sees the retirement of two Leighton Properties stalwarts, Bob Borger in Queensland and John Barrett in Victoria. Both Bob and John have contributed significantly to the company, each with over 20 years of service, as well as to the property industry at large.
From all of us we at Leighton Properties wish Bob and John the very best wishes in their retirement.
