Managing Director's Message December 2011
Mark Gray 1 Dec 2011
As the end of the year approaches, Leighton Properties is in full swing with two record making commercial deals and the opening of its first two residential towers at Hamilton Harbour in Brisbane.
Leighton Properties has also picked up a raft of awards and sustainability ratings to end the year on a high for the company and staff.
This momentum will continue into next year with development applications to be lodged for the first stages of three new urban precincts, Erskineville NSW, Boggo Road QLD and Green Square NSW.
Construction activity will also continue strongly with two large A Grade commercial towers, King George Central in QLD and Eclipse Tower in NSW, currently over 60% complete and due to finish in 2012. The third tower of Hamilton Harbour, Riverside Hamilton will also be well underway.
GBCA SPONSORSHIP CONTINUES
We are pleased to announce the continuation of our sponsorship of the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) for 2012. We believe the work of the GBCA is a strong fit with our organisation’s vision to ‘grow a sustainable, integrated national property business, renowned for the quality and timelessness of its projects’.
A highlight of the sponsorship this year was the privilege of listening to Kevin McCloud speak at the GBCA hosted event at Doltone House.
Kevin is on the Board of the UK Green Building Council, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Foresters and an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Whilst famously known for his TV series Grand Designs, Kevin is equally passionate about sustainability and affordable, relevant housing. He brings his message to light in 'Slumming It', two one-hour documentaries he produced on living in the slums of Mumbai, a community with a "low standard of living but a high quality of life due to the gains that come from sharing their resources."
McCloud has visited Australia many times and continues to be impressed with Australia’s integration of sustainability into its buildings, communities and overall approach to living. He places Australia at the forefront of sustainability action and advocacy.
OUR PIPELINE
Leighton Properties' development pipeline is set to significantly expand in 2012 with our team working on a range of projects in both the commercial and residential sectors. We hope to announce the first of these early in the new year.
The growth strategy and organisational restructure implemented in September has been a positive step for the company and I am very pleased with the staff and industry response. I would like to thank the whole Leighton Properties team for the efforts and contributions they have made during the year which will underpin the success of the company for many years to come.
Please note our offices will be closed from Friday 23 December 2011 and will reopen on Tuesday 3 January 2011.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday and I look forward to a great year in 2012.
